Netherlands

Tuvalu

In February 2017, Newen acquired a majority stake in the capital of Tuvalu Media Group, the Netherlands’ leading independent production group.
Tuvalu is well-known among Dutch broadcasters for its creativity and the quality of its productions. Among its top programmes are The First Years, Raising the nation, Maestro (BBC format) and Small town, big city.

Pupkin

In August 2018, Newen acquired a majority stake in the capital of Pupkin via Tuvalu in order to expand its global footprint.
Created in 2003 under the direction of producers Pieter Kuijpers, Iris Otten and Sander van Meurs, Pupkin is one of the Netherland’s top film and TV drama production studios. Its films and series have won awards at various festivals and been sold internationally, with themes ranging from crime to more family-focussed subjects. Via Tuvalu Media Group (the Dutch production company owned by Newen), Newen acquired 60% of Pupkin, thereby consolidating Tuvalu Media Group’s position on the Dutch market, where it is now the number three player, with an activity balanced between non-scripted entertainment and drama series.

Denmark

Nimbus

At the same time, Newen acquired a stake in the capital of Nimbus.
Created in 1993 by Bo Ehrhardt and Birgitte Hald, Nimbus is one of Denmark’s top production studios. It started out in cinema with numerous successes both critical (such as Festen, Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival) and commercial (the Antboy trilogy), before branching into TV series (with notably The Bridge, one of the most widely sold and adapted Danish/Swedish series in the world). Nimbus also has a significant catalogue, which is a source of adaptation rights, and access to Scandinavian formats and talent for its production activities. For the time being, Newen’s stake in Nimbus amounts to 33%. The two groups have now begun to explore the possibility of new projects in drama (which Newen would distribute) and animation (with plans for Blue Spirit to adapt the Antboy franchise).

Belgium

De Mensen

In February 2019, Newen is acquiring 60% of majority stake in De Mensen, one of Belgium’s leading producers of scripted and unscripted audiovisual content, founded in April 2001. De Mensen creates content for public and private channels in Belgium, for platforms like Netflix and for numerous international clients attracted by the various formats the company offers, with a a wide range of content including game shows (Blokken, in its 13th season), travel programmes (Reizen Waes) and drama (Beau Séjour, Salamander and Professor T, all broadcast in or adapted for several European countries, and more recently, Undercover, which attracted close to 50% of viewers on its first airing in Flanders).

De Mensen has several subsidiaries: Skyline Entertainment, Gardner and Domm, Het Laatste Bedrijf, Gallop Tax Shelter and the Virus and also a presence going back several years in French-speaking Belgium through the Brussels-based production house Les Gens, of which it owns 100%.

Canada

Reel One

In July 2019, Newen has acquired a majority stake in Reel One, a leading player in the production and licensing of scripted content for the North American and global markets
Based in Montreal with offices in London, Los Angeles and Vancouver, Reel One develops, finances, produces and markets telefilms and series for a global audience. Formed in 2001 by media entrepreneur Tom Berry, Reel One is one of the most dynamic independent players in audiovisual production and licensing.
